Romanian tennis player Irina Begu advanced on Wednesday to the quarterfinals of the 4,771,360-dollar WTA Premier Madrid Open, after defeating Christina McHale (USA), 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-4.
Begu (aged 25, WTA 34th) claimed the victory over her 23-year old opponent, who is ranked the world's 59th, in two hours and 37 minutes. Begu, who thus secured a cheque of 114, 560 euro and 215 WTA points, will play in the quarterfinals the winner of the match Timea Bacsinszky (Switzerland) vs. Simona Halep (Romania).
