Kelemen Hunor, leader of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR), said those seeking to bring down a government should also present a viable alternative to replace it.
Asked in Parliament whether there are still chances of rebuilding the pro-European coalition, he said this is possible, "but it will not be easy".
"It can be done, yes, but it will not be easy, as there have been some harsh statements and everyone will need to sit down and talk," Hunor said.
Referring to a potential alliance between the Social Democratic Party and the Alliance for the Union of Romanians, he said he does not consider it natural.
"Only Grindeanu [PSD leader] can answer this question. I have said many times that it is not normal, and I stand by that view,' he added.
Hunor stressed that a motion of no confidence should also include a solution for subsequent governance.
"When you bring down a government, you should also propose an alternative. This motion lacks many important elements. (...) If you dismiss a government, you should propose, with the same majority, another government with a different prime minister. This is missing. On the other hand, forming a government follows a different logic than dismissing one. And especially when we talk about a minority government - because that was part of the discussion - from our perspective, that is not appropriate," he said.
Asked whether the current situation amounts to a political crisis, Hunor replied: "Yes, gradually, yes."
The motion of no confidence, titled "STOP the 'Bolojan Plan' to destroy the economy, impoverish the population and fraudulently sell off state assets", submitted by parliamentary groups of PSD, AUR and PACE - First Romania, is due to be presented on Wednesday in a joint plenary session of Parliament.
