Latin America, including Central and South America, can be a gateway for Romanian investments, and cultural proximity is a great advantage that should be explored, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) Mihai Daraban said at a recent meeting with the Mexican ambassador to Romania, Amparo Erendira Anguiano Rodriguez.

According to CCIR, Daraban presented the situation of Mexican investments in Romania, according to which ,as of September 2026, 71 companies with Mexican capital were registered in Romania, whose subscribed share capital totals EUR 3.05 million.

"Latin America, including Central and South America, can represent a gateway for Romanian investments, and cultural proximity is a great advantage that must be exploited. Mexico is the partner with which Romania registers the largest volume of trade in the region, which is a solid argument for organising a trade mission to Mexico, which would bring together representatives of the two business environments, active in areas of common interest," added Daraban.

In her turn, the Mexican ambassador to Romania underlined the current openness of the Mexican state towards foreign investments and the favourable trade framework created at the level of the relationship between the European Union and Mexico.

"Currently, the Mexican state pays special attention to and promotes an active policy of supporting and attracting foreign investments, so that the implementation of CCIR's plan to carry out an economic mission that includes companies is welcome. Also, the new interim trade agreement agreed between the European Union and Mexico will facilitate exports and mutual investments and will reduce trade barriers, including for Romanian companies, with the bilateral relationship thus benefitting from a framework that allows the development and dynamisation of trade relations," she said.

Official data show that in 2025, trade between Romania and Mexico was standing at EUR 488.79 million, up from EIR 412.2 million the year before.

Romanian exports amounted to EUR 363.42 million, and imports to EUR 125.37 million, with the trade balance favouring Romania EUR 238.05 million.

So far in 2026, the upward trend has been maintained, with the volume of bilateral trade as of May standing at EUR 198.05 million.
