The first edition of the "Les Films de Cannes a Oradea" festival, held from 29 October to 1 November, drew a large audience interested both in award-winning films and in meetings with cinema professionals, as well as a vocal-symphonic concert.
"The screenings were fully attended and audiences enthusiastically welcomed the film selection, with an excellent atmosphere throughout the event. The public's interest confirmed the appeal of auteur cinema and viewers' desire to discover films on the big screen," the organisers said in a press release issued on Wednesday.
The events took place at the Museum of the Cris Country and Cinema Palace. Over four days, film enthusiasts in Oradea had the opportunity to watch acclaimed Cannes productions at an event that brought contemporary cinema closer to local audiences.
One of the festival's highlights was the screening of "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days," directed by Cristian Mungiu, which won the Palme d'Or at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. Actress Anamaria Marinca, who played the leading role, attended the event and participated in a discussion with the audience after the screening. The discussion was moderated by Gabriel Moisa, manager of the Museum of the Cris Country - Museum Complex.
"The meeting gave audiences the opportunity to discover new perspectives on the film and on the experience behind its making," the press release says.
The cultural programme continued with a vocal-symphonic concert dedicated to music from famous films, held in the museum's conference hall. The University of Oradea Choir and Orchestra performed, featuring Albert Costin as soloist and Vladimir Agachi as conductor. The programme also included performances by the Flute Ensemble, coordinated by Ariadna Zenaida Mircescu, and the Percussion Ensemble, coordinated by Szekely Cristian. The choir was prepared by Carmen Rus.
At Cinema Palace, the four days of the festival were dedicated to productions screened or awarded prizes at Cannes. The festival's film programme featured seven titles, bringing together both films honoured at previous editions of the Cannes Film Festival and titles from the 2026 selection.
"Through these events, 'Les Films de Cannes a Oradea' offered more than a series of film screenings: it provided a cultural experience that brought audiences closer to cinema, music and the people behind these forms of artistic expression," the press release also reads.
The Oradea edition was organised by the Museum of the Cris Country - Museum Complex, with the support of Bihor County Council and Oradea City Hall, in partnership with the Cinemascop Association, Voodoo Films, Cinema Palace, the Faculty of Arts - Music Department of the University of Oradea, Oradea Local Transport and the "Friends of the Museum of the Cris Country" Association.
The "Les Films de Cannes" festival was founded in 2010 by director Cristian Mungiu, with the support of Thierry Fremaux, General Delegate of the Cannes Film Festival, and is organised by the Cinemascop Association and Voodoo Films.
