MAE confirms death of second Romanian citizen caught by oceanic wave in Tenerife

The Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) confirmed on Monday the death of the second Romanian national caught by the oceanic wave in Tenerife.

"Following the clarifications regarding the incident which occurred in Tenerife, the Kingdom of Spain, where a strong oceanic wave caused multiple casualties, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentions that, in agreement with the official pieces of information provided by the Spanish authorities on Monday afternoon, the second injured Romanian citizen has passed away because of the injures sustained," a MAE release sent to AGERPRES informed.

The MAE reiterated that representatives of Romania's Consulate General in Madrid are in touch with the families of the two Romanian victims and are providing consular assistance, in accordance with their competences.

The MAE brings to mind that Romanian citizens can request consular assistance by calling the Consulate General in Madrid at +34 685 440 149, +34 685 440 159, +34 685 440 166, or +34 917 344 004, the calls being redirected to the Contact and Support Center for Romanian Citizens Abroad (CCSCRS) and handled by call centre operators around the clock.

Moreover, the Romanian citizens who are confronted with a difficult, exceptional or urgent situation can also contact the consular office's emergency telephone: +34 669 362 202.
