The Minister of National Defense, Radu Miruta, and the Chief of the Defense Staff, General Gheorghita Vlad, visited, on Tuesday, the 265th Military Police Battalion, one of the military units where the training of soldiers and volunteer conscripts (SGVT) will take place.

According to a press release from the Ministry of National Defense sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday, the program aims to form a young and well-trained operational reserve. Depending on the results obtained, young people will be able to opt for continuing a military career.

"We want this program to train not only well-trained military personnel, but also citizens prepared for current challenges. SGVT represents an investment in both defense capacity and the resilience of Romanian society," the minister said, quoted in the press release.

In 2026, the Romanian Army offers modern conditions for accommodation, food, training and physical training, the Ministry of National Defense mentioned.

"The infrastructure of the units has been modernized, and the conditions offered are at high standards. We have ensured that the accommodation, feeding and training facilities meet the requirements of an efficient training process adapted to current realities," the Chief of the Defense Staff also declared, according to the press release.

Following the approval of the budget, the Ministry of National Defense started the process of approving the normative acts necessary for the implementation of the SGVT program, with the training of approximately 3,500 young people planned for 2026.
