The Defence Staff, through the Land Forces, Naval Forces, Air Force and the Space and Radiocommunications Agency, will take part on Friday and Saturday in ASTROFEST 2026 - European Space & Science Festival.
According to a National Defence Ministry (MApN) release, the event is dedicated to promoting science, technology, innovation and space exploration and is being held in Crangasi Park in Bucharest,agerpres reports.
"This year's edition has special significance, marking 45 years since the spaceflight of General Dumitru-Dorin Prunariu, the only Romanian to have traveled into space. As part of the festival, the public will have the opportunity to attend a conference by General Prunariu and take part in dialogue sessions dedicated to his experience in the area of space exploration," the release said.
In the thematic area dedicated to defence and security, the public will be able to see equipment, technologies and capabilities used in carrying out specific missions, as well as information on areas of interest such as communications, unmanned systems, dual-use technologies and space applications relevant to security and defence.
The MApN mentioned that the ASTROFEST 2026 programme also includes areas dedicated to space exploration and Earth observation, artificial intelligence and robotics, education and future skills, genomics and medical technologies, as well as the European Astrophotography Salon and the Science Fiction, Scientific and Animation Film Festival.
The Romanian Army's participation in the event aims to promote interest in science, technology and innovation, while familiarizing the public with the role that research and emerging technologies play in the development of defence and security capabilities, the Ministry said.
