Prime Minister-designate Siegfried Muresan accuses the Social Democratic Party (PSD) of disrespect towards President Nicusor Dan, given that the social democrats announced they would not support him before the nomination decree was published in the Official Gazette.
He announced that he would go before Parliament to seek a vote of investiture for the new Government.
"We will go to the Romanian Parliament, firstly to present a vision for Romania; secondly, to show the people how each MP and each parliamentary group votes; and thirdly, out of respect for Romania's Constitution and the President. A nomination process is a serious matter. I was surprised by Mr. Grindeanu's lack of respect for the President of Romania today; the PSD practically stated it had reservations about my candidacy before the nomination decree was even published in the Official Gazette. I consider their move to be a hostile gesture towards the President of Romania as well," Muresan stated on Pro TV.
The liberal believes the Government he proposes has a chance of being approved by Parliament; however, should it fail to pass, the President could trigger early elections "at any moment."
"MPs, in particular, need to know that the choice is between this Government and early elections. I know the President of Romania hasn't considered them so far, but I wouldn't want to be a member of the Romanian Parliament, perhaps representing a party that barely cleared the electoral threshold, only to find out on TV that Parliament has been dissolved and I am heading home. So, it is very clear: it's either this Government or the real possibility of early elections. I believe this Government has a chance of passing; if it doesn't, the President can trigger early elections at any moment," explained Siegfried Muresan.
