Doctors from all specialties will take part on Friday in a protest "in defence of the dignity of the medical profession," organised in Bucharest's Victoriei Square by the Professional Association of Outpatient Care Doctors (APMA), informs Agerpres.
According to the organisers, the rally, scheduled between 10.00 - 13.00, is not directed against anyone, but is "an alarm signal."
"The approval was for about 1,000 people, but I think there will be a little less. The rally is not with some classic, traditional demands. It's for the repositioning of the doctor in society and for the dignity of this profession, which has been gradually sabotaged both from the outside and from within. If before it was an honour to say that you are a doctor, now sometimes you are ashamed to say so," the president of the Professional Association of Outpatient Care Doctors Cosmin Alexandrescu told AGERPRES on Friday.
He also said a memorandum would be submitted to the Government on Friday.
The memorandum calls for a doctor's law to define the "framework of activity" of the medical profession.
At the same time, it also calls for the medical profession to be protected from the "media circus."
According to APMA representatives, medical education must become a priority in public education.
"Last but not least, we need sufficient funding. (...) By adequately funding these sectors, we prevent unnecessary hospitalisations, worsening of diseases and ultimately bring savings to the health system," the document reads.
