The improvement of the living conditions at the Cincu military base - Brasov County, where the NATO Battle Group is stationed, will be completed by the end of this year, Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca declared on Monday at the end of the meeting of the National Liberal Party's National Political Bureau.
"We discussed certain subjects with the French side, there is a commitment in place to complete the accommodation facilities at the Cincu base by the end of the year. I am convinced that this way conditions will improve; from the briefing by the National Defence Ministry I understand that initially not all the troops could be accommodated in containers, so that some of them stayed in tents. As soon as the containers are installed they will move there into," Ciuca said.
The French side undertook all the responsibilities related to the NATO Battle Group's camping at the Cincu base, the troops' food supply and the provision of related services, specifically water supply, energy, waste management, the Defence Ministry said in a statement on Friday.
The Defence Ministry reiterates that the Collective Defence Battle Group (CDBG) is operationalized in Romania by France, as a framework nation, and integrates, on a rotating basis, forces from Belgium and the Netherlands. It was established starting in May, by transforming the allied multinational elements within the NATO Response Force deployed to Romania.
The main CDBG forces are stationed at the Cincu National Joint Training Center, in a camp built gradually by the CDBG forces starting in May.
"As the host nation, the Romanian side has provided all the elements requested so far by the representatives of the French military and the other allied contingents and will promptly act in the future as well in order to provide assistance and support, according to the requests, and in line with the national legislative framework and with the commitments pledged under the technical agreement to be concluded between the Romanian and the French side," the Defence Ministry also said, after information emerged in mass media according to which troops stationed at the Cincu military base complained about of the living conditions at the facility.
