PNL's Orban: It's a shame for Gov't and majority coalition that Romania has no budget

PNL (National Liberal Party) leader Ludovic Orban on Monday criticized the government for failing to adopt the state budget for this year.

"It's a shame for the Government and the majority coalition that we will see January ending very soon and Romania still has no budget. This has serious consequences on the functionality of the public institutions, the functionality of the local public authorities, which cannot adopt the local budgets until the adoption of the state budget. It has an extremely negative impact on the economic development of Romania, for there cannot be any new investments made until the state budget and the local budgets are adopted. They have problems including with their expenditures on personnel. (...) They are not capable of building the budget. (...) I saw that the Prime Minister was missing from the table [from a picture showing Liviu Dragnea, published on Facebook - editor's note], which means that the PM has nothing to do with the budget. (...) Basically, we don't have a budget because the current Government is incapable of drafting a budget to correspond to the current regulations at European level," Orban said after the meeting of the National Political Bureau of the PNL.

He showed that the parliamentary majority refused to convene an extraordinary parliamentary session.

Moreover, Orban specified that the Liberals will file a new motion of censure against the Government during this parliamentary session.

In his turn, PNL Senator Florin Citu stated that the institutions should take action each time when such confidential data regarding the economy are being published.

"It seems there are people in the Ministry of Finance who give information via sources and then this information is published by the Speaker of the Deputies' Chamber, by an adviser. There is no other country in the world where this happens. Confidential information appears to all at the same time. There are no sources for someone to use preferentially. We don't know, for instance, if Liviu Dragnea, maybe, used this information in his own interest and to make money out of it. The state institutions should take action each time when such situations appear," said the Liberal Senator.
