Former Prime Minister, deputy Victor Ponta declared on Monday that Pro Romania MPs will support any effort made to replace the current Executive, but do not agree that Dancila's Government be replaced with a National Liberal Party (PNL) one, with Ludovic Orban at its helm, informs Agerpres.
According to him, during discussions with other parties, Pro Romania will propose Sorin Cimpeanu as candidate for the Prime Minister position.
"Firstly, we agree with the idea of replacing the current Government with a more competent one, a Government that is capable of leading Romania in the year of the Centennial and to represent Romania next year during the Presidency of the Council of the EU, with people who are prepared for the position they will occupy in that Government, with people who are exclusively busy with the act of governing and not with the political problems that occur every day. (...) We will support any effort made to replace the current Government. The idea is not just to bring down a Government. (...) You can't just come and say - we are taking down the Government and we'll see what happens afterwards. I want to say very clearly that from our point of view, and we are not talking here about Ludovic Orban as a person, we are talking about the idea of replacing the PSD-ALDE (Social Democratic Party - Alliance of Liberals and Democrats) Government, led by Ms. Dancila, with a PNL Government, led by Mr. Orban - it is a wrong idea, it is not legitimised through vote, it cannot function and we will not endorse it," Ponta told a press conference, at the Parliament Palace.
He made an appeal to the initiators of the censure motion - PNL and USR (Save Romania Union, ed.n.), urging them to discuss, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with all those who are willing to vote this motion from PSD, ALDE, from Pro Romania and other political parties, and to tell them that they do not want to bring down the PSD Government in order to replace it with a Liberal one.
"We have still got 48 hours of hope, I urge the PNL - USR leaders not to think in political terms, but to think in terms of what is good for Romania (...) It is very often said - you criticize, but what is the alternative? I am well aware of the actual size of Pro Romania, of our parliamentary group, but we can come with solutions and I would like to announce you that during discussions with other political forces, we will say very clearly that in case the current Government will be replaced, we have a proposal, and that is Sorin Cimpeanu, who can be one of the serious proposals for the position of prime minister," he mentioned.
