European integration reduces uncertainty, increases predictability, and gives local and foreign companies greater confidence to invest for the long term, Cristian Popa, a member of the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Romania (BNR), stated on Thursday.

He attended the second edition of the international conference organized in Chi?inau by the National Bank of Moldova, alongside the Banque de France and the National Bank of Romania (BNR), according to a LinkedIn post.

"The Republic of Moldova is advancing on the path toward European Union integration. It is a long, difficult journey that demands reforms, strong institutions, credible policies, and a great deal of discipline. Romania has itself traversed this path and knows just how much partner support matters when undergoing profound transformations. Yet, the results of such a process are tangible indeed. Integration reduces uncertainty, increases predictability, and gives companies both local and foreign greater confidence to invest for the long term. Anyone viewing European integration with skepticism need only look at the evolution of Romania's stock of foreign direct investment over the past 20 years," wrote Cristian Popa.

The BNR official also highlighted the support provided to the Republic of Moldova in the European integration process.

"Moldova is not alone. It has the support of Romania and its European partners. Moreover, it has extremely competent people who, I am convinced, will successfully guide it toward achieving this goal. In this process, Governor Anca Dragu's commitment, determination, and energy are powerful; they are already evident in the pace of reforms and the results achieved," he stated.

According to Cristian Popa, European integration has effects that go beyond the fulfillment of rules and criteria.

"European integration means more than just rules and criteria. It means stronger institutions, greater confidence, and, over time, better conditions for investment, growth, and prosperity," stated the member of the NBR Board of Directors.

He also referred to the cooperation between the central banks of Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

"The BNR and the BNM are two distinct institutions from two different states, yet we have never forgotten that we speak the same language, share common roots, and have a relationship built over time on trust and cooperation. And this cooperation is increasingly taking on a European dimension," stated Cristian Popa.

In his view, convergence is a long-term process, and the NBR will continue to support the National Bank of Moldova on its European path.

"Convergence does not happen overnight; it is a long-term process. And the National Bank of Romania is a long-term partner, ready to stand by the National Bank of Moldova throughout its European journey," Cristian Popa further wrote.
