President Klaus Iohannis said that filing a criminal complaint against him for high treason, demanded by Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Liviu Dragnea, is "a petty political demarche," "a fantasy of the PSD, which has no support".
"It is a petty political demarche which, in the first place, is doomed to fail. No one can file a criminal complaint against the president, and for high treason there is a very complicated, parliamentary procedure, which, in the first place, has no support. It is a fantasy of the PSD members," Klaus Iohannis said in Vienna on Tuesday, where he is attending the the High-Level Forum Africa-Europe.
On Sunday, PSD leader Liviu Dragnea asked the Social Democrats to file a criminal complaint for high treason against President Klaus Iohannis.
"Iohannis, who betrays Romania's interests, has been saying for a very long time that the Romanian Government, Romania are not ready to take over the presidency of the EU Council. This is an act of national treason, of the national interests of this country practiced by Klaus Werner Iohannis. (...) Please, after New Year's Eve, file that complaint of high treason against Klaus Werner Iohannis," Dragnea said at the meeting of the National Council of PSD.
