President Nicusor Dan on Thursday received the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, with military honours at the Cotroceni Palace.
The official welcoming ceremony took place on the Marinescu Plateau. The national anthems of Ukraine and Romania were played and the Guard of Honour was inspected.
According to a press release from the Presidential Administration of Romania, the high-level bilateral consultations are taking place in the context of the recent anniversary, on February 24, marking four years since Russia launched its war of aggression against Ukraine. From the very first days, Romania has provided multidimensional support to Ukraine and is currently contributing to international efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace, accompanied by solid security guarantees for Ukraine.
The agenda of the discussions between the two presidents will include topics intended to facilitate the consolidation of a comprehensive, constructive and forward-looking bilateral relationship. 'The talks will focus on developing political dialogue, boosting economic cooperation, sectoral cooperation in areas such as energy and defence industries, improving connectivity and cross-border projects, as well as Romania's role in the process of Ukraine's reconstruction,' the press release reads.
The two heads of state will also exchange views on current issues such as the process of enlargement of the European Union, the transatlantic relationship, the security situation in the Black Sea region and the latest regional and global developments.
At the same time, the Romanian president will refer to the need to advance bilateral dialogue regarding respect for the rights of persons belonging to the Romanian minority in Ukraine, including the right to education in their mother tongue, the same source notes.
Later in the day, Volodymyr Zelensky will also be received by Romania's Prime Minister, Ilie Bolojan, as well as by other Romanian officials.
