The connection between the Romanian Fencing Federation and the Romanian Crown is a very old one, Prince Radu told a Wednesday's event dedicated to young athletes who won medals at the Junior and Cadet World Fencing Championships.

The event was organized in the garden of the Elisabeta Palace, being for the first time this year when a physical event was hosted here, agerpres.ro confirms.

"The connection between the Romanian Fencing Federation and the Romanian Crown is a very old one, so old that your sport is among the first to take an institutional form in Romania in the last century. Also the end of the 19th century had its beginnings in terms of professional sporting life, but it was not until the beginning of the 20th century that the sports movement, with each passing decade, consolidated itself in more and more distinct sports, which soon became European and, not long after, world ones," said Prince Radu.

He expressed his satisfaction for the results obtained by the young Romanian athletes.

"When you see today a new generation of athletes who dedicate their talent to fencing, in all its forms, you can only be happy that, on the one hand, continuity has its say in sports, as it does in culture, in science, in Romanian traditions, in politics, in diplomacy, in the arts and, on the other hand, that this so beautiful complicity between the Romanian Crown, in all its generations, and the Romanian sport continues, regardless of vicissitudes, regardless of whims of the times," Prince Radu pointed out.

The Custodian of the Romanian Crown, Margareta, and Prince Radu welcomed on Wednesday, at Elisabeta Palace, a delegation made up of young athletes who won medals at the Junior and Cadet World Fencing Championships, held in Cairo, in April 2021.

The event was attended by the President of the Romanian Fencing Federation (FRS), Marius Florea, who thanked for the organization of the festivity, the club coaches of the medal-winning athletes, as well as other members of the FRS leadership.

At the end of the meeting, a short fencing demonstration took place in the garden of Elisabeta Palace.

The Romanian Fencing Federation has been, since 2011, under the High Patronage of Prince Radu.
