National leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Sorin Grindeanu said on Monday that he will not support a technocratic government or a hybrid government made up of social-democratic and technocrat ministers.
At a news conference at the PSD headquarters, Grindeanu was asked if he excludes in any way PSD offering its support for a technocratic government or for a hybrid government, which includes social-democratic ministers and technocrats.
"Yes. (...) The broad negotiating mandate given to the PSD leadership is in the sense of having a government, how to say, transparent, owned, not a government following a conjunctural vote, only of investiture of that government. We can have this majority of 233 votes, let's say, through a conjunctural vote in Parliament, but that does not give strength to that government. What we are asking for is for there to be a transparent, owned majority and to have that government agenda that, as you know, will change the direction in which we are going at the moment. Any other things are outside our mandate," Grindeanu said.
He was also asked if he would agree with the version proposed by Save Romania Union (USR) national leader Dominic Fritz, that of a government rotation with National Liberal Party (PNL), USR, the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) at the beginning, and after six to eight months for PSD to come with its own government.
"I don't believe in issues proposed by Dominic Fritz, allow me to be sceptical. (...) At this moment, I don't see why it could be a matter (governmental rotation ), as I requested, with a solid, owned, transparent majority in Parliament and that would withstand the challenges that will come in Parliament. But let's give a nuance. I don't totally exclude it, so that this verdict of mine is not really drastic. We'll see," he said.
The PSD leader added that the Social Democrats will not offer votes in Parliament to a government of which USR is a member.
