Increasing pensions is a necessary measure not only for pensioners, but for the whole Romanian society, and this will continue, Social Democratic Party (PSD) Chairman Liviu Dragnea said on Thursday at the meeting of the National Council of PSD Pensioners' Organization at the Palace of Parliament.
"We have decided that we need to invest in welfare, and we can also find the model for developing the business environment, with fiscal relaxation measures that generate extra incomes, and at the same time to increase pensions and wages. Increasing pensions is not, as one might think, a useful measure only for pensioners, it is a necessary measure for the Romanian society as a whole, it is primarily a guarantee for all who are not yet retired. (...) All Romanian citizens who are working should think that any measure we take for retirees is also valid for them and we take steps, at least until 2020, to create a stable, solid pension system that leaves no pensioner in the poverty area and no pensioner in the situation of thinking whether tomorrow he/she has money for food, to pay bills or for medicines. (...) Medicines are not optional," Dragnea said.
According to him, PSD, whenever in power and even in certain situations when it was not in power, took serious, sustainable measures that are important to increase the incomes of pensioners and make their life better.
The PSD Chairman announced that pension rises will continue. "There is no risk that there is no money to pay pensions. (...) There is no risk that the pension budget will not have enough money for pensions. 2017 was a year full of lies," he added.
