Social Democratic Party (PSD) interim Chairman Sorin Grindeanu on Thursday said that people do not expect him to be friends with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, the leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL).
Sorin Grindeanu was asked on Romania TV private broadcaster whether it is true that relations between him and Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan are nearly non-existent and that he no longer takes part in high-level coalition meetings, having been replaced by Marian Neacsu.
"No. I have been present at all coalition meetings," the PSD leader replied.
Grindeanu also said that his relationship with Ilie Bolojan is "the same as it was before he became interim chairman of the PNL and I became interim chairman of the PSD."
"I believe people do not expect us to be friends, that's not the issue, and neither I nor Mr Bolojan believe that should be what guides us. There must be trust and mutual respect. At this moment, I have no reason to say that is not the case, until proven otherwise," the interim PSD chair added.
