Interim President of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Sorin Grindeanu said on Thursday in Drobeta Turnu Severin that Oana Gheorghiu has done "admirable work in the NGO sector," however she is not the most suitable person for the Deputy Prime Minister office talking into account that since 2021 she has expressed positions against the current US administration.
Sorin Grindeanu stated that the matters must be kept separate and any other interpretation is false.
"I have nothing against Ms Oana Gheorghiu, I even congratulate her and it is admirable what she has done in the NGO sector, in foundations, all those things for which she deserves all praise and our applause. I had and I raised a question seeing anti-Trump administration positions. Not just one, but several. I do not know if such a person can serve the Government well, but I cannot fail to say what I think. Nor can the PSD stay silent. I repeat: we separate the matters. One thing is what she has done in the NGO and civil society sector, but when you become Romania's Deputy Prime Minister and continuously, starting from the winter of 2021 and in the past year several times, say things that are not exactly favorable about the Trump administration, I do not know if you are the most suitable person to hold a public office, namely that of the Deputy Prime Minister. This is what I am talking about. And however many things others may try to connect otherwise, it is false. The NGO activity is one thing, but this is something else," Grindeanu told a press conference in Drobeta Turnu Severin.
The PSD leader underscored that one cannot deny "when you call President Trump and Vice President Vance rascals," but the appointment was taken on by the Romanian Prime Minister.
"You cannot say that she has not done good things in the civil society, but nor can you deny what I said earlier. When you call President Trump and Vice President Vance rascals, not once, but several times, you cannot deny it. This is why I said I believe she is not the most suitable person. The Prime Minister went ahead and took responsibility. It is a matter that he has assumed," the interim PSD president added.
