Social Democratic Party (PSD) leader Sorin Grindeanu said on Tuesday that Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan should resign after the adoption of the motion of censure, even though he is currently leading the Government in an interim capacity.
"I expect that in the coming period President Nicusor Dan will call us to consultations. I think it would be normal for Ilie Bolojan to resign at this moment from the prime minister office, even if he is interim, because we are talking about an overwhelming vote. And then, I would rather like us to quickly find a solution at the Cotroceni together with the other parties and move forward," Grindeanu said at the Palace of Parliament.
Asked whether the PSD will carry out discussions with other political parties before the consultations at the Cotroceni, Grindeanu replied: "No. I will go together with my colleagues saying what I have been saying for several weeks, namely that we want to broadly maintain the coalition, we will see if there will be any changes in this area, of the coalition, and that we will not support minority governments. Nothing has changed."
The PSD leader said he does not intend to offer advice to political partners who decided to end cooperation with the Social Democrats in the event of the motion being tabled.
"I will not go beyond what I have said so far. As I have called on other parliamentary colleagues from other political parties to focus on their own parties, you will not hear me giving lessons to those from the PNL [National Liberal Party] or advice, or to those from the USR [Save Romania Union]. It is their business to decide their political future. I can only speak on behalf of the PSD and I say the following: the PSD is willing to quickly find a solution, I want us to have a Government quickly, all options are open. (...) I say that following the first round of talks at the Cotroceni, solutions will be clarified," Sorin Grindeanu concluded.
The motion of censure initiated by MPs from the Social Democratic Party (PSD), the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) and PACE - Intai Romania (PEACE - Romania First) against the Government led by Liberal Ilie Bolojan was adopted by Parliament on Tuesday.
