PSD (Social Democratic Party) leader Sorin Grindeanu says that Siegfried Muresan, the prime minister-designate, 'seems to be struggling', does not appear to be prepared for the position and, although this is the second time the head of state has designated a PNL (National Liberal Party) prime minister, the Liberals 'seem to be surprised yet again'.

'When someone proposes that you become prime minister and try to form a government, and you are the candidate put forward by the parties that went with you to Cotroceni today, are you really asking for time to think about it? Weren't you the candidate of the right? Or do you actually need to ask for permission? I think that is what it was really about. Mr Siegfried Muresan had to ask for permission, and not from Romania. This is the second time the president has designated a prime minister from the PNL and they seem to be surprised again. Has this Mr Siegfried Muresan been training for about three months since he was proposed, or two and a bit months since the PNL and USR proposed him as prime minister? He has been training on Facebook for about three months. He has flooded us with posts and he already seems to be struggling, as he is not prepared,' Grindeanu said on Thursday evening on Romania TV.

He stressed that he would not vote for a government headed by Siegfried Muresan.

'I can tell you that on Monday I will convene the National Permanent Bureau within the party, but personally I will tell my colleagues that I cannot vote for someone who has betrayed Romania and the Romanian people, and that will be my proposal. Of course, since this is a democratic party, we will see on Monday what decision the party bodies make,' the Social Democrat leader added.

He believes that Muresan 'will go down in glory in Parliament'.

'We had a president who used to say that we need to take things step by step. I believe Siegfried Muresan will go down in glory in Parliament and will probably receive the lowest number of votes in history at an investiture vote. That is my bet,' Sorin Grindeanu said.

President Nicusor Dan designated MEP Siegfried Muresan as prime minister on Thursday.
