The rector of the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (USAMV) in Cluj-Napoca, university professor Cornel Catoi, PhD, on Monday was decorated with the Order of "Palmes Academiques" in the rank of Officer of the French Republic.
The distinction was handed to him by the ambassador of the French Republic to Romania, Nicolas Warnery, who spoke about the commitment of university professor Cornel Catoi, PhD, and the USAMV, in supporting Francophonie in research and education fields, as well as in promoting the French language and culture in the academic environment in Romania.
In his turn, university professor Cornel Catoi, PhD, thanked for the distinction that was granted to him, emphasising that this is not necessarily for one person, but rather for the entire university.
"Let us be grateful to our predecessors, to the generations of teachers, to the students who built this institution, not only as walls, buildings, but as a continuity of science, research, of common values. Let us especially thank today's students and I would like to give special thanks to the students from the foreign languages department, and especially from the French department, who are very motivated and are very motivating for the teachers, and their presence in the university has profoundly changed our university. It was a surprise for me to be awarded this very honourable title and, in fact, from now on I feel more obliged to strive to fully deserve it and, in fact, it is a recognition of the quality of education, research in the university and, in fact, the medal is awarded perhaps more to the institution than to a person," said rector Cornel Catoi.
The "Palmes Academiques" distinction is the oldest French civilian honorary order and is bestowed on personalities who have contributed particularly to the development of education and the promotion of French culture internationally.
