A fragment of the relics of the Saint and Righteous Lazarus was placed for worship on Saturday, at the Patriarchal Cathedral, informs the Basilica agency of the Romanian Patriarchate.

The faithful will thus be able to meditate in memory of Lazarus, the one whom the Church honors on the eve of the Feast of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem, agerpres reports.

"The death of the Saint and Righteous Lazarus, who was resurrected after four days, made the Savior weep, in a rare moment in Holy Scripture. The New Testament also relates that the Savior wept for the City of Jerusalem, before entering it on Palm Sunday. Lazarus was the son of the Pharisee Simon of Bethany and had two sisters, Martha and Mary. His birthplace is the current territory of the West Bank, approximately 3 kilometers from Jerusalem. His resurrection is recounted in chapter 11 of the Gospel of John, and historical testimonies attest that he lived another 30 years after his resurrection," reports the cited source.

The Holy Apostles Paul and Barnabas ordained Lazarus bishop of Kition - today's Larnaca, on the Island of Cyprus.
