Romanian rider Emanuel Gyenes will participate in the 2023 Dakar Rally, the only Romanian in the competition, and he intends to rank among the first 30 competitors.
He told on Tuesday a press conference, that although he had surgery after the fracture two years ago, he feels prepared for the new competition. The doctors removed the rod from his tibia and the mesh from his fibula, but he still has three screws in his leg that will probably remain there for the rest of his life.
"I can say that I feel good and I feel ready for a new challenge. This year, after seeing that we had a lot of technical problems with the bike in Dakar, we wanted to buy a new KTM, we wanted to place an order with the factory, but the factory people told us that we can't order new motorcycle model, the 'factory' competitors ride a newer bike than the one I have. They said it was not deliverable and then I decided to dismantle the bike that I have and we are going to prepare it for a new Dakar, so we bought 50 percent of new parts, new chassis, new engine.There have been many hours of work on this bike and I hope that I will not have any more technical problems," said Gyenes.
He was accepted in the Male Moto class (without assistance team) and aims to be on the podium.
"The most important thing is to come home healthy, but a place on the podium in the Male Moto class would be very good, and in the overall a 30th place would be good," said Gyenes.AGERPRES
