The 'Panama Papers', the largest information leak in history, covers in its over 11 million documents over 100 Romanian citizens, according to Rise Project that has released on Sunday on its very website a list with over 60 business persons of Romania who have purchased offshore companies from the Mossack Fonseca lawyers.

"The documents made public by John Doe and analysed by us have unearthed underground businesses that explain today events of the last 30 years. We have thus understood better the connections in Romania between Tiriac and Klaus Mangold, important German businessman, Remus Truica and Beny Steinmetz, one of the most important Israeli business persons in the world, Elan Schwartzenberg and the media tycoon Rupert Murdoch, Jean Claude Gandur and one of the most important gold deposits of Romania," the Rise Project journalists write.

Among the business persons who appear on the list published on Sunday by Rise Project are: Corneliu Iacobov - former social-democrat (PSD) politician, former owner of the Rafo Onesti refinery (an offshore), Gabriel Comanescu - GSP CEO (six offshore companies), Mougel Regis Charles Claude - French businessman who has brought the Cora and Auchan hypermarket chains to Romania (an offshore), Ion Tiriac (an offshore), Robert Rosu - founder of the Tuca, Zbarcea and Associates law firm (an offshore), Ilie Busuioc - owner of Ocean Fish (an offshore), Ionut Costea - vicepresident of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and also president of the EximBank (an offshore), etc.

The National Tax Administration Agency (ANAF) announced at the beginning of April that an inter-departmental working group was going to check the fiscal implications of the information published through the 'Panama Papers.' In this group's activity are involved anti-fraud inspectors, fiscal inspectors, and inspectors specialised in the verification of revenues of the individuals, the administration of the fiscal information and foreclosures.
