Romania will participate, as a special guest, in the 2027 edition of the Festival du Livre in Paris, according to a memorandum approved by the Government on Friday.
The Festival du Livre Paris is one of the main international events dedicated to literature and the most important book fair in France.
"Romania's participation will contribute to the consolidation of Romanian-French cultural ties, the promotion of Romanian literature and the new generation of writers, as well as to an increase in the number of translations into French. At the same time, the event will offer opportunities to promote history and cultural tourism and to develop economic contacts, in a year that marks 20 years since Romania's accession to the European Union," accoring to the memorandum.
The estimated budget for participation, between April 16 and 18, 2027, is EUR 408,022 and covers the organisation of the national stand, as well as a svhedule of literary, artistic, musical and theatre events.
The main expenses are the rental of the 100 sqm pavilion - EUR 250,000; the arrangement of the stand - EUR 15,000; the creation of the logo - RON 9,00; the visual identity and promotional materials - RON 12,000; the production of advertising materials - EUR 20,000, and the rental of spaces for related events - EUR 20,000.
The French organisers expressed their willingness to support Romania's participation by providing a central exhibition space and by increasing visibility in the official promotional materials and in the event's schedule. The steps to win the status of special guest were initiated by the Romanian Embassy in Paris, together with the Romanian Cultural Institute in Paris, between March and July 2026.
The Romanian Cultural Institute will coordinate the organisation of the schedule of events and the national stand and will ensure the financing of the participation, with resources allocated from the state budget.
"Romania's presence in Paris in 2027 continues the series of high-level participations in major international book fairs, after the status of guest of honour at the International Book Fair in Cairo, in 2026, and in the perspective of participation, in the same capacity, in the Frankfurt Book Fair, in 2028," according to the government.
