Octavian Morariu, IOC member and former president of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, said that the Romanian rowing team at the Paris Olympics made good of two of the four chances for medals they had on Thursday, which is already very gratifying.

"Rowing has most athletes here, more than one third of the delegation, they compete in many events with good chances for medals. Today they achieved two out of four, which is already a lot. We are waiting for the girls' lightweight double sculls event tomorrow, and we are also looking forward to the 8+1 event, I am convinced that more medals will come. And I'd like them to be of the most precious metal, gold," Morariu said.

The former rugby player termed as "admirable" swimmer David Popovici's effort to win two medals - gold and bronze - at the current Olympic Games.

"What David did is exceptional because he confirmed that he is the 200m freestyle reigning leader. He was admirable in the 100m freestyle race, although it's difficult to compete two days after the 200m event and with all the stress, with all the pressure of the Olympics, it's very hard to recover and claim another medal after just two days. In fact, his 100m medal was a confirmation of his 200m success and shows all the extraordinary work David has done. It is also a success for Camelia Potec and the Romanian Swimming Federation, which has done a very good job with these wonderful kids," he explained.
