Romania's Boitan advances to Brasov Challenger singles QFs

Romanian tennis player Gabi Adrian Boitan on Wednesday progressed to the quarterfinals of the Ion Tiriac Challenger tournament, prize money EUR 91,250, hosted by the Olimpia Sports Base in Brasov, after defeating Ecuadorian Alvaro Guillen Meza 6-2 6-1.

It took qualifier Boitan, 25, world number 372, just an hour and 17 minutes to get past the fourth seed, Guillen Meza, 22, world number 233, agerpres reports.

For his performance so far, the Romanian won EUR 2,635 and 16 ATP singles points.

In the quarterfinals, Boitan will face France's Luka Pavlovic, 25, world number 241, who defeated Filip Cristian Jianu, 23, world number 274, in the round of 16, 6-1 7-6 (7/4), in an hour and 26 minutes. Pavlovic managed no less than 15 aces in this match as well.

Jianu won EUR 1,535 and 6 ATP singles points.

In doubles, the only Romanians who made it past the first round are Alexandru Jecan/Bogdan Pavel.
