In the first two months of 2026, Romania produced 379,700 tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), down 35,700 toe (-8.6%) year-on-year, according to data with the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
Crude imports exceeded 1.256 million toe, down 271,700 toe from January - February 2025 (-17.8%), Agerpres informs.
According to the latest Energy Balance Forecast, published by the National Board on Economic Strategy and Forecast (CNSP), Romania's crude production is expected to decrease by 2027 at an average annual rate of 2.5%.
Thus, for 2026, CNSP estimates 2.68 million toe (-2.2%, from the previous year) and 2.63 million toe (-1.9%) for 2027.
The decrease is said to be the consequence of the natural decline of the fields and the maintenance of the existing production units.
Imports of crude oil are expected to rise by 7.4% in 2026 to 7.52 million toe, and by 7.8% in 2027.
