Specialists from three continents are participating in the 14th edition of the Romtransplant Congress, organised between October 14-17 in Cluj-Napoca, an event that includes, for the first time in Romania, a training course dedicated to tissue transplantation and a cross country race to promote donation and transplantation, informs the National Transplant Agency (ANT).
According to ANT, the pre-congress course takes place on October 14-15 and represents the second training programme in transplant procurement management organised in Romania, and the first dedicated to tissues. Experts from Spain participate in the activities and the programme includes the stages of the donation and sampling process, from the identification and evaluation of the donor to obtaining the family's consent, harvesting, processing and preservation of the grafts, agerpres reports.
The course includes presentations, discussions of clinical cases and practical sessions, with the objective of strengthening the skills of professionals involved in the donation and transplantation activity.
The congress will include scientific sessions dedicated to the development of tissue transplantation and its use in surgical practice. The topics covered are the transplantation of musculoskeletal tissues, such as bone and tendon, the use of tissues in valve and vascular surgery, corneal transplantation by penetrating and lamellar techniques, the use of the amniotic membrane and the needs of patients with severe burns.
The international experts will present models of good practice and the experience gained in their countries, together with the Romanian specialists, and will analyse the opportunities and measures necessary for the expansion of transplant programmes.
Another component of the event is an awareness cross country race scheduled for Saturday, October 17, which will be attended by the executive director of ANT, Guenadiy Vatachki, doctors involved in the transplant activity and patients.
"Our participation sends a message of solidarity and underlines the importance of collaboration between medical professionals and people whose lives are directly influenced by transplantation. The cross country race is a public awareness initiative, bringing to the public's attention the importance of donation and the need for community involvement," said the executive director of ANT.
