Save Romania Union (USR) proposes Roxana Rizoiu, an expert in human rights, for the position of Ombudsman.
Roxana Rizoiu is a jurist with international experience before the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), a trainer of generations of magistrates and a "respected voice" in the field of human rights, according to a press release sent on Tuesday by USR, agerpres reports.
She is not and has never been a member of any political party, the cited source mentions.
"The Ombudsman must be the voice of those who have no power, not an appendage of politics. Romania needs an honest, courageous and competent person who can truly defend the rights of citizens against abuses. Roxana Rizoiu has the experience, balance and moral authority necessary to build trust in this institution", declared the USR president, Dominic Fritz.
After graduating from the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest (1997), Roxana Rizoiu entered the Ministry of Justice through a competition, where she worked within the Directorate of the Government Agent for the ECHR.
"She had two mandates as Government Agent of Romania at the ECHR, within the Ministry of Justice (2000-2002) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2004-2005). In this capacity, she coordinated the defense of the Romanian state before the European Court, including participating in public hearings. He collaborated with national institutions to promote the legislative and administrative changes necessary to prevent the recurrence of human rights violations, an experience that gave her a profound perspective on the importance of reform and the state's responsibility towards citizens," reports USR.
