Senate President Mircea Abrudean said on Tuesday that President Nicusor Dan's initiative to nominate a prime minister to form a government must be 'seen through to the end', with a vote in Parliament.
'From the perspective of the National Liberal Party (PNL), we believe that this initiative must be seen through to the end, that is, in Parliament, and it will be concluded with a vote,' Abrudean said at the Senate.
Asked whether there was a majority to invest the Muresan Government, Abrudean said: 'We will know at the time of the vote, because political statements are always one thing and the vote is another. And we have seen this in recent times. We believe that we must see this initiative through to the end, because we take this nomination by the President of Romania seriously, and this nomination must conclude with a vote in Parliament,' Abrudean added.
Prime Minister-designate Siegfried Muresan is due to meet on Tuesday with the PNL parliamentary groups to present the priorities of the government programme he will propose.
The joint meeting of the parliamentary groups will take place at Parliament at 4.00 pm.
The prime minister-designate is also due to meet with the parliamentary groups of the Save Romania Union (USR) and the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR).
On Monday, Siegfried Muresan said he would first hold talks with the parties supporting him and subsequently with lawmakers from other parliamentary groups.
