Severe rain on Tuesday night and early Wednesday left behind fallen trees, clogged sewers, streets, the basements of three blocks, as well as eight flooded courtyards in the Black Sea city and county of Constanta.
According to the Constanta City Hall, teams from the local administration, the Water Authority and the sanitation company were busy all night from Tuesday to Wednesday to manage the effects of torrential rainfalls.
"The intervention continue this morning. The authorities are constantly monitoring the situation on the ground in order to act promptly where necessary," the Constanta City Hall informed on Wednesday.
As a preventive measure, the city ordered on Wednesday morning a temporary suspension of public bus traffic, so as not to hinder the intervention of the field teams.
According to the ISU Dobrogea Emergency Management Inspectorate of Constanta County, so far firefighters have been requested to step in, in addition to the city of Constanta, in several localities in the county: in Lazu - to remove water from an apartment, in Lumina - two flooded households, in Harsova - a tree fell on electric cables, in Ovidiu - three flooded houses, in Navodari - a flooded yard, as well as in Topalu.
ISU Dobrogea is helped by ISU Suceava and ISU Botosani, and 16 motor pumps, four trucks, two minibuses, two pneumatic boats and two special operation trucks were deployed to Constanta County.
Classes are cancelled on Wednesday for over 109,000 students from the 205 pre-university schools in Constanta County.
According to the warnings issued by the National Weather Administration, between October 7, 21:00 and October 8, 15:00, in the counties of Constanta, Calarasi, Ialomita, Giurgiu, Ilfov and in the city of Bucharest there will be severe rainfalls of 80 - 100 l/sqm up to 120 - 140 l/sqm.
