The Federation of Investors and Developers for a Sustainable Economy (FIDES) and the Concordia Employers' Confederation are organising the Romania Affordable Housing Summit at the Palace of Parliament on Monday.
The discussions will focus on the European, regional and Romanian approaches to financing and solutions for affordable housing, as well as on the dynamics of the residential property market.
According to data presented by the organisers, 40.7% of Romanians lived in overcrowded households in 2024, compared with 16.9% in the European Union. At the same time, approximately 94% of the population lived in owner-occupied homes, while according to the 2021 census, around 25% of homes in Romania were unoccupied. However, the situation varies significantly from one region to another.
The announced speakers include Dragos Pislaru, interim Minister of Investments and European Projects; Constantin Sebesanu, President of FIDES; Dan Sucu, President of Concordia; Kover Orsolya Maria, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration; Luminita Mihailov, Director General of the South-East Regional Development Agency; Radu Hanga, President of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) Board of Governors; Rares Hopinca, Mayor of District 2; and Robert Cazanciuc, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Transport and Infrastructure, among others.
