Three Polish citizens have been detained at the Border Crossing Point (PTF) Siret (northern Romania), after trying to smuggle cigarettes worth more than 900,000 lei, a press release issued by the ITPF Press Office Sighetu Marmatiei sent to AGERPRES on Thursday informs.
According to the quoted source, relying on data and information held at the IGPF (Border Police General Inspectorate) level, on Wednesday, the Border Police officers with the PTF Siret carried out a thorough check on two trucks loaded with plasterboard and mineral wool with three Polish citizens, upon which a large amount of cigarettes has been found.
As a result of the cigarette inventory activity, it was found that a total number of 941,027 packets of cigarettes of various brands, of Ukrainian origin, worth 903,386 lei was hidden in the plasterboards and mineral wool in the two cars.
The whole quantity of cigarettes was taken for confiscation by the border police officers, and the two vehicles were detained at the headquarters of the Border Police Sector until the completion of the investigations.
The three Polish citizens are being investigated for smuggling, and on their name a 24-hour detention order is issued, being due to be presented to the judge of rights and freedoms within the Radauti Court with a proposal for provisional detention.
