The two young Ukrainians who crossed the border into Romania through the Maramures Mountains, spotted in one of the most dangerous areas, were recovered by mountain rescuers, the head of the Maramures County Public Mountain Rescue Service (SPJ), Dan Benga, informs on Monday.

"After more than 10 and a half hours, the two Ukrainians were safely evacuated [on Sunday night into Monday - editor's note] from the mountain. They were found in a steep area after they listened to the advice of the mountain rescuers not to try to descend. Both claim that they were also on the front line, were exhausted, without supplies - it seems that the mountain surprises everyone who tries to escape - and had been in the mountains for three nights. One of them, who had problems with his lower limb, was given first aid and was helped to descend the mountain," said Dan Benga.

According to him, after the Ukrainians were brought to the base of the mountain, they did a medical checkup and, because they did not present any particular medical problems, they were taken over by the relevant authorities for the required procedures in such cases.

The rescue operation was supported by a crew of the Border Police Sector, Valea Viseului sector, a locality bordering Ukraine.
