Discussions on the political crisis continued on Tuesday in the office of the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Sorin Grindeanu, who met with the leader of the UDMR (Democratic Union of Hungarians of Romania), Kelemen Hunor, the latter once again advocating the restoration of the governing coalition.

'We discussed nothing other than the political crisis. I said that we still believe the best option, the primary option, is to rebuild the coalition with an independent or non-independent prime minister acceptable to everyone. (...) I listened to President Dan's statement, in which he said that all options are on the table and that he wants a reliable solution. That means any option is reliable if it has a majority behind it. And I said that I would support such a solution with the parties that were part of the broad governing coalition. (...) I am not saying technocrat, I am saying a prime minister who can be accepted by everyone. So it depends on the person. (...) The President said he has two or three names in mind; we will probably find out after the consultations,' Kelemen Hunor stated after the talks with Grindeanu.

He specified that at Friday's meeting of the Council of Union Representatives (CRU) he would seek a flexible mandate for consultations.

'We always ask for a flexible mandate, because you cannot come with a very rigid mandate, otherwise you end up in various deadlocks, as you can see now, and of course there are principles that must be respected,' the UDMR leader said.

Asked whether, in the event of a proposed PSD (Social Democratic Party) - UDMR government supported by the parliamentary group of national minorities, it would at least be possible to obtain the validation vote of the USR and the PNL, Kelemen Hunor replied that such a scenario was not possible.

'That scenario does not exist. In my mind, for now, there is only one scenario, and I have explained what it is. And it is not a scenario for two and a half years.'
