The modifications to Justice laws, human trafficking and collaboration between the UK and Romania in the area were among the topics Justice Minister Tudorel Toader and UK Ambassador in Bucharest Paul Brummell discussed on Wednesday. "We have discussed about the collaboration between the UK and Romania in the Justice area. We have a very close collaboration. (...) We have discussed the modifications to the judiciary system of Romania. I have underscored that Romania must decide according to the Constitution and the parliamentary procedures. I have stressed that we appreciate what Romania has done in respect to the fight against corruption. Romania has institutions that are working very well. The modifications to Justice laws must be discussed with all involved parties. The Minister explained the purpose of the modifications," Brummell said at the end of the meeting at the Justice Ministry headquarters.

In respect to the modifications to the Justice laws, Paul Brummell pointed out that during the discussion he underscored that Romania must decide which the most suited justice system is, adding that there are institutions such as the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA), which, in his opinion, are working very well. "We have discussed the modifications of the judiciary system in Romania and I highlighted that, of course, it is for Romania to decide according to the Constitution and according to the parliamentary procedures what justice system you want, what is the suited system for Romania. We underscored we appreciate very much what Romania did last year in respect to the establishment of the rule of law and the fight against corruption. I underscored that Romania has institutions such as DNA that (...) are working very well and our point of view is that any modification should be done with all involved parties and the modifications should be aimed at strengthening the rule of law in Romania and the fight against corruption."

Asked if Tudorel Toader said that he supports the fight against corruption, the Ambassador said: "Yes. He said it, too, is important for Romania." Brummell also pointed out that he is the one who initiated the meeting on Wednesday with Tudorel Toader.
