The US Embassy on Tuesday expressed "deep concern" with the exclusion of Judge Cristi Danilet from the judiciary, stressing that "an independent judiciary that respects the rule of law is essential for any prosperous democracy."
The US diplomatic mission to Romania encourages the new Government to continue the necessary judicial and anti-corruption reforms, agerpres reports.
The US embassy is deeply concerned with the exclusion of Judge Cristi Danilet from the judiciary. An independent judiciary that respects the rule of law is essential to any prosperous democracy. As President Biden has recently said at the Summit for Democracy, democracy does not happen by chance. We must renew it with each generation. The United States is proud to work in partnership with Romania, within the global community for democracy, during the Year of Action of the Summit for Democracy, the Embassy states on Facebook.
Romanian citizens deserve an independent justice system, they complete the diplomatic mission.
"We encourage the new Romanian Government to continue the necessary judicial and anti-corruption reforms. Romanian citizens deserve an independent justice system that respects the rule of law and democratic values. We must continue to uphold the values that unite us," reads the text of the US Embassy.
The section for judges in disciplinary matters of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) decided on Monday to exclude Judge Cristi Danilet with the Cluj Tribunal from magistracy for the manifestations he allegedly had on several social networks.
Danilet claims that his exclusion from the judiciary was decided by the CSM for two videos published last year on Tik Tok, which are not related to Justice and the profession of magistrate, but refer to private life.
