Groupama has opened 520 claim files at national level, following the extreme weather phenomena that affected Romania at the beginning of July, with the total estimated value of the compensation exceeding 3.5 million lei, according to a press release from the insurance company, transmitted to AGERPRES on Tuesday.

Last week's storm caused significant damage to homes, properties and vehicles, and the most affected areas were Bucharest and Ilfov, where 414 damage files were registered, of which 143 for car damage and 271 for damage to homes and properties.

Home and property damage totaled 344 files at national level, while 176 files represented car damage.

"Extreme events are becoming more and more present, often with devastating consequences, and in the face of them, it really matters who you have by your side. Our role now, as always, is to fulfill our mission and be by our clients' side, with empathy and professionalism," Calin Matei, CEO of Groupama, said in the cited press release.

The company has already paid out over 90,000 lei in compensation in the first days after the weather phenomena occurred, based on optional home insurance. 21 home and property damage files were closed by payment from the first call, the process from notification to compensation being completed in less than 10 minutes.

Of the registered files for homes and properties, 51 were approved through the self-assessment option, and 272 followed the classic on-site assessment procedure. Groupama teams were mobilized even during the weekend, in order to expedite the resolution of all active cases.

The company's data shows a significant increase in extreme weather events in 2026 compared to previous years. In the first six months of the year alone, Groupama paid approximately 50 million lei for damage caused by natural phenomena, almost double the amount paid in the same period in 2025, when the value of damages paid amounted to 26 million lei.

The most affected counties and regions in the first half of the year were: Bucharest, Ilfov, Constanta, Iasi, Cluj, Dolj and Maramures, where 1,470 damage files were registered, compared to 740 in the same period last year.

"Over 8.3 million lei has been allocated since the beginning of the year in the Bucharest - Ilfov area alone, the classification being followed by Constanta with almost 2.3 million lei and Iasi with 2.1 million lei," the press release reads.

Part of an international insurance and financial services group, with a history of over 100 years, Groupama offers insurance solutions to nearly 1.6 million individual clients and 156,000 companies.
