The arrivals recorded in tourist accommodation facilities, including apartments and rooms for rent, amounted to 12.308 million people in the first ten months of the year, an increase of 4.4% compared to the same period in 2023, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Thursday.
Of the total number of arrivals, from January 1 to October 31, 2024, those in accommodation facilities represented 83.3%, while the arrivals of foreign tourists accounted for 16.7%.
The overnight stays recorded in tourist accommodation facilities (including apartments and rooms for rent) during the same period totaled 26.422 million, an increase of 3.4% compared to the January - October 2023 period.
Of the total overnight stays, those of Romanian tourists in accommodation facilities accounted for 84%, while the overnight stays of foreign tourists represented 16%.
The average length of stay was 2.2 days for Romanian tourists and 2.1 days for foreign tourists.
By country, the highest number of foreign tourist arrivals in accommodation facilities (including apartments and rooms for rent) from January 1 to October 31, 2024, came from: Germany (212,900 people), Italy (175,500 people), and Israel (133,800 people).
The arrivals of foreign visitors in Romania, recorded at border points, totaled 11.57 million people during the mentioned period. Road transport was the most commonly used means of travel by foreign visitors (81.6% of the total arrivals during the period).
The departures of Romanian visitors abroad, recorded at border points, totaled 13.99 million people during the analysed period, with 73.3% of them using road transport and 25.9% using air transport.
In October 2024, compared to October 2023, arrivals at tourist accommodation facilities (including apartments and rooms for rent) advanced 5.6%, and overnight stays increased 4.5%.
The departures of Romanian visitors abroad, recorded at border points, in October 2024, totaled 1.22 million people, with 79.1% preferring road transport and 20% using air transport.
