The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Bucharest, Rim Kap-soo, stated on Wednesday that he respects Romania for "its essential role on the eastern flank of the free world" and for the resistance that our country had throughout history.

The diplomat was the host of an event organized on the occasion of his country's national day.

Rim Kap-soo recalled the visit of President Iohannis to Seoul, this spring.

"In April, in Seoul, our two presidents agreed that there should be more intensive cooperation on supply chain resilience, to diversify trade ties and strengthen investments on both sides, especially in strategic areas such as Energy, Defense and Infrastructure", he pointed out.

At the same time, the ambassador showed that his country will support Romania's project of small modular reactors in Doicesti.

"South Korea will be one of Romania's most reliable partners in the effort to achieve the national goal of securing energy sources and the economic future," he said.

Regarding the collaboration in the defense field, the South Korean diplomat said that Hanwha Aerospace will build a factory "making Romania a regional hub, integrating Romanian companies into the company's global supply chain".

"As I have emphasized so many times, our countries have many things in common. We are resilient peoples, who have lived through good and bad in our histories, faced many difficulties and carved an irreversible path towards democracy and economic prosperity", Rim Kap-soo said.

He quoted two lines from the Romanian national anthem: "Now or never, carve out another fate/ Now or never let's give evidence to the world". These verses, the diplomat pointed out, "exactly show the path that our countries are following".

"Korea is strengthening its partnerships and solidarity with countries with similar mentalities (...) For Korea and Romania, between Europe and Asia, it is not enough to be just good friends. We must become the best friends", emphasized Rim Kap- soo.

For his part, Senator Roberta Anastase, secretary of the Permanent Bureau of the Senate, mentioned the current security situation and the Romanian-Korean partnership. "We must remain united in the effort to maintain the international order based on rules", said the representative of the Romanian Senate.

The Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, said that his first "meeting" with South Korea was in the 90s, when his father brought him a video game from a trip to this country.

"South Korea's achievements are extraordinary. You have distinguished yourself as a leader in terms of innovation, technology and culture", he said, and in this regard he also mentioned the tritium removal facility in Cernavoda, one of the examples of collaboration bilateral.

Minister Burduja also referred to the history of this country and aspects that unite it with Romania.

"We know that the story of Korea is that of overcoming the division. And today, both Korea and Romania are among the last countries divided after the Second World War. Like the Koreans, who have the same language and culture and yearn for unification, the Romanians feel a deep connection with the Republic of Moldova, a connection of history, language and kinship. The hope of union is not only a matter of politics, it is connected to the integration of families and communities", said Burduja.

For his part, State Secretary Traian Hristea from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the progress made to strengthen the Strategic Partnership between the two countries, mentioning defense and energy among the most active areas.
