The Standing Electoral Authority (AEP) announced on Wednesday that there were 18,999,438 Romanians eligible to vote featuring in the Electoral Register as of January 31, down 4,467 from the previous month's 19,003,905 Romanian voters.
According to AEP, the difference is a result of the current operations carried out by mayors in the Electoral Register and the import of data from the General Directorate for Personal Records (DGEP).
In January, 24,369 people were removed from the Electoral Register as a result of their deaths, as well as 182 people whose right to vote was rescinded.
At the same time, 80 persons regained their electoral rights as a result of deregistration having expired.
The number of voters who turned 18 in the same period is 18,804, and they were automatically entered in the Electoral Register by AEP based on reports from the General Directorate for Personal Records (DGEP).
According to data imported from DGP, 1,200 new voters were entered into the register.
AEP also said that, out of the total number of Romanian voters featuring in the Electoral Register, 18,010,164 have a domicile or residence in Romania and 989,274 have a domicile abroad and hold Romanian passports.
Under Law 208/2015, the Electoral Register is a national information system for registering and updating the identification data of the Romanian citizens eligible to vote and the information regarding their allocation at the polling stations.
