Significant listings are expected by the end of this year, bringing benefits such as capital mobilisation and the creation of new opportunities for investors, President of the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF) Alexandru Petrescu told at a specialist event on Thursday.
'It is very clear and natural that I support listings, both for companies in the private economic sector and for those with state ownership. We will see a number of important listings by the end of this year, and again, a significant number, at least compared to the recent past, particularly among state-owned enterprises. Often, the state carries out such listings under a kind of coercive imperative, because of the PNRR [National Recovery and Resilience Plan], or other obligations. But I want to make it clear that the main motivation is the broad, 360-degree benefits that a listing brings and represents. I won't list all the benefits of a listing, we all know them. They include capital mobilisation and the emergence of new opportunities for investors. Everyone benefits. From my point of view, ASF remains the guarantor of fairness in this stock market game, in the most benign sense of the word. We ensure compliance with corporate governance principles and, ultimately, provide a predictable framework for trading,' said Alexandru Petrescu at the launch of the study 'Listing Minority Stakes of State-Owned Companies on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.'
In his view, a rebuilding of the social contract with citizens, based on trust, is absolutely necessary.
'At a time when the institutional architecture of the Romanian state is being reconsidered, the subject addressed in this report, namely, the listing of minority stakes in state-owned companies in such a way that it does not compromise the state's ability to make decisions, is very important because it leads us into the area of trust. I believe that rebuilding the social contract with citizens, with trust as its key ingredient, is absolutely essential,' added the ASF president.
The study titled 'Listing Minority Stakes of State-Owned Companies on the Bucharest Stock Exchange' was carried out by the CFA Romania Association.
