AUR maintains to be legitimate political force, while Muraru was appointed by presidential order

The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) is a legitimate political force that reached the Romanian Parliament through the democratically expressed will of an important part of the electorate, while Alexandru Muraru was appointed by presidential order, AUR claims in a press release sent to AGERPRES.

"The Alliance for the Union of Romanians is a legitimate political force that reached the Romanian Parliament through the democratically expressed will of an important part of the electorate: we were elected by democratic vote, Mr. Alexandru Muraru was appointed by presidential order (...). Through the furious attacks on us, through the continuous denunciation, devoid of consequence, of some facts that do not exist, Mr. Muraru is intent on proving that he is nothing but a useful tool for a context unfavorable to the Romanian interest," says AUR.

According to the leadership of this political party, Muraru's actions "represent an insult to the intelligence of Romanians and a real danger to democracy in Romania."

"His latest feat, through which he dares an incalculable interference in the political act, pulling democracy by the ears way beyond Romania's borders, is just another kompromat [compromising material] exercise of Bolshevik extraction by which he disqualifies himself once more. And, with him, so does the entire government, whose high representative he is. That is why his actions and, consequently, those of the Romanian Government, represent an insult to the intelligence of the Romanians and a real danger for democracy in Romania".

The clarifications brought by AUR follow an announcement made by deputy Alexandru Muraru, the special representative of the Government for the Promotion of Memory Policies, Combating Anti-Semitism and Xenophobia, who officially requested, on Thursday, the "urgent intervention" of the European Socialist leadership to stop the collaboration between the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and AUR.

According to the deputy's press release sent to AGERPRES, "an alliance contrary to nature: the Romanian socialists allied with the fascists in order to overthrow the Government" was created in Romania.

He adds that, practically, PSD and AUR are the only opposition parties, and a possible motion unites them in an unequivocal political project.
