The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) lawmakers will not vote for the Vestea Cabinet, the leader of the USR senators, Petrisor Peiu, said on Wednesday, adding that sanctions could be possible otherwise.
Asked if the AUR MPs who would vote for this government would be excluded or sanctioned, he replied: "Probably yes, I don't know that, I can't say it beforehand."
"That is, to speak civilly and decently with us and about us. I tell you once again: (AUR) will not vote for this government. How can they vote, since Nicusor Dan offends us every time he goes to the microphone and talks about us? The same was done by the other, Eugen Tomac, and so did Vestea. Let them apologise. We can discuss from the future appointment a different attitude when he apologises to our voters as well."
Peiu said that AUR rules out support of the Vestea Government: "Of course it is ruled out, did he ask us when he appointed that gentleman?"
He called "desperation" the change in attitude on the part of Vestea, who would have shown himself willing to negotiate with AUR. "Desperate. Desperate, let's be serious. 'He's willing'. How is he willing? He could pick up the phone and call us, he could send us an e-mail, a message and ask, 'Do you want to talk tomorrow at four o'clock?' (...) On this way of appointing a prime minister, we cannot negotiate, it is a matter of principle. Two - the parties in Romania must have clear messages in order to have a predictable country. I said that we do not vote for the Vestea Government, so we do not vote for the Vestea Government," Peiu said.
"If President Nicusor Dan moderates his rethoric and civilizes it, it becomes a decent speech and he expresses himself correctly to all the parties in Romania, at least the parliamentary ones, which have some votes behind them, of course we are talking. You can't refuse dialogue. You can never refuse dialogue. What we reproach Nicusor Dan for is the inappropriate language against a party voted by 1,700,000 people," explained the leader of the AUR senators.
According to Peiu, any party respects the principle of not voting for a government of which it is not a member. "And yet ridiculous. How to vote for a government you are not part of? What control do you have over that government?"
The senator reaffirmed that AUR maintains its objective of early elections as a solution to get out of a situation in which stable parliamentary majorities cannot be made.
"The discussion we have now starts from the observation that there is no clear, transparent, stable majority for the formation of a government. What is the democratic solution to get out of such an impasse? Early elections. (...) We must all understand that the parties must have clear and steadfast messages for the electorate. You are not part of the government; you do not vote for the government. It's a simple principle. It's in the alphabet of any politician. If there are parties that lie to themselves and lie to their electorate and vote for governments they are not part of, that is not a serious party category," the AUR MP said.
