The chairman of the Save Romania Union (AUR), George Simion, said on Friday, on his Facebook account, that the cancellation of the presidential elections is a "coup d'état in full swing", stressing that his supporters do not intend to take to the streets, informs Agerpres.
"SHAME!!! Coup d'état in full swing! We don't go out on the streets, we don't allow ourselves to be provoked, this system must fall democratically!", stated Simion.
The AUR leader considers that "it is unprecedented" what is happening at this moment, given that, "only a few days ago, the same Constitutional Court (CCR) validated this electoral process".
"Nine politically appointed judges at the CCR decided to cancel the will of the Romanians, scared that a candidate from outside the system had every chance to become the president of Romania! What is happening at this moment is unprecedented. The same Constitutional Court, only a few days ago, validated the same electoral process! And today, from the early hours of the morning, Romanians from the diaspora are exercising their right to vote for the second round", said Simion, in a press release.
At the same time, he said that people "must not act violently", noting that this "abuse" must be penalized democratically.
"We appeal for calm! People must not act violently. This abuse must be penalized democratically, by the citizens! We are waiting for the CCR's motivation, but at this moment we can no longer speak of democracy in Romania, but of a state captured by the interests of some guided groups on the other hand. We will not give up! We will fight to the end!", states Simion.
The Constitutional Court decided on Friday to cancel the entire electoral process of the presidential elections.
"In the meeting of December 6, 2024, the Constitutional Court, in order to ensure the correctness and legality of the electoral process, exercised its authority provided for by art. 146 letter f) of the Constitution and, with unanimity of votes, decided the following: In pursuant to Article 145 letter f) of the Constitution, cancels the entire electoral process for the President of Romania, carried out on the basis of Governmental Decision 756/2024 regarding the establishment of the date of the elections for the President of Romania in 2024 and Governmental Decision 1061/2024 regarding the approval of the calendar program for carrying out the necessary actions for the election of the President of Romania in 2024", the CCR decision states.
