Average net nominal wage up by 4.7 pct in March, to 2,342 lei

The average net nominal wage was 2,342 lei (rd EUR 520) in March this year, on the increase as compared to the previous month by 106 lei (+4.7 pct), according to data released on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

The average gross nominal salary was 3,256 lei (rd EUR 723), by 4.8 pct higher than in February 2017.

The highest levels of the gross nominal average pay were recorded in information technology services activities, including IT services (5,880 lei), and the lowest levels in hotels and restaurants services (1,369 lei).

In March 2017, in all of the economic sector's activities, the average net earning was higher than in the previous month due to the occasional bonuses (including quarterly or annual premiums, the 13th salary, performances perks or Easter holidays bonuses), in kind benefits and cash aid, benefits from the net profit and other funds (meal and gift vouchers included). Additionally, the average net earnings in March were higher as compared to the previous month as a result of higher outputs or returns (depending on contracts / projects).

The most significant increases in the average net earnings were recorded in the extraction of crude oil and natural gas - 40.9 pct, respectively in the manufacturing of coke and crude oil products - by 24.8 pct.

In the public sector, the average net pay slightly increased against the previous month in education (+ 4.9 pct) as a result of the teachers' hourly payment, respectively in health and social assistance (+1.1 pct) and in public administration (+ 0.2 pct).

Compared to March, the previous year, the average net nominal pay went up by 14.2 pct. The real earning index against the same period of the previous year was 114 pct.

The real earning index was 104.6 pct for March 2017 as compared to the previous month. Compared to October 1990, the real wage index was 177.9 pct, 7.9 percentage points higher than the one recorded in February 2017.
