BNR launches coin on 80th anniversary of Emil Palade University in Targu Mures

As of 17 November 2025, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a coppered tombac coin dedicated to the George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology of Targu Mures - 80 years since its establishment.

The obverse depicts a composition featuring academic symbols, the inscription 'ROMANIA' in an arc, the face value '1 LEU', the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue '2025'.

The reverse of the coin presents the circular inscription 'UNIVERSITATEA DE MEDICINA, FARMACIE, STIINTE SI TEHNOLOGIE 'GEORGE EMIL PALADE' DIN TARGU MURES', the year of its establishment '1945' and an image of the University building.

The coppered tombac coins are housed in transparent plastic capsules and are embedded in presentation leaflets, being inserted in cardboard holders.

The maximum mintage is 5,000 coppered tombac coins.

The selling price for the coppered tombac coin, including the presentation leaflet and the cardboard holder, is lei 260.00, VAT excluded.

The coppered tombac coins dedicated to the George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology of Targu Mures - 80 years since its establishment are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The coins are put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanta, Craiova, Iasi and Timisoara.
